Car chase suspect talks about incident from jail

In a rambling jailhouse interview, carjacking and chase suspect Artrai Alexander appeared to dodge the truth like he was dodging cars Wednesday before crashing into a minivan.

Alexander told FOX 4 that yes, he stole a Dodge Challenger and yes, he drove crazily while trying to get away from police.

However, he does not take any responsibility.

He claimed the car's owner pulled a gun on him earlier in the day, and that he did not stop because he was afraid police would shoot him.

He did, however, give the driver of the minivan he crashed into a little credit.

Jessica Liesmann, the minivan driver he hit, got out approached Alexander and dragged him out with the help of her boyfriend, who was in the minivan with her.

Liesmann's 13-year-old son, T.J., was also in the van when it was hit, and police said Liesmann was like a mad mama bear, hanging on to Alexander until officers arrived.

"She's pretty tough, huh?" FOX 4 asked Alexander.

"Yeah," said Alexander. "Thumbs up to her…I want you to understand my upset-ness as well for being put in that situation…the kid and the people getting hurt, that's what I regret. The people that got hurt, they were innocent. Yeah, they were innocent."

Alexander is charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest.
