SMU basketball at No. 25 in AP poll after home loss, road win

SMU basketball remained in the Top 25 after a tough home loss and big road win last week.

The Mustangs were ranked at No. 25 in this week's Associated Press poll, released Monday, down two spots from last week.

SMU defeated the AAC's first place team, Tulsa, 68-57, on Saturday to move within one half game of the top spot in the conference standings. The win came 48 hours after a tough eight point loss to Cincinnati at Moody Coliseum.

SMU is 19-5 overall and 10-2 in the American Athletic Conference. The Mustangs have won 17 of their last 19 games.

SMU's five losses come to teams all ranked or receiving votes in this week's poll: No. 3 Gonzaga, No. 24 Arkansas, Cincinnati and Indiana.

The Mustangs are looking to make their first NCAA tournament since the 1992-93 season. Most NCAA prediction brackets have SMU in the tournament with a mid-range seed of 8 or 9.

SMU travels to in-state rival Houston on Thursday night before hosting defending national champion UCONN in a nationally televised game on Saturday night on the Hilltop.
