Mansfield apartment standoff ends after 8-hour wait

A police standoff at an apartment building in Mansfield ended peacefully eight hours after it started.

Tarrant County Sheriff's deputies tried to serve 49-year-old Mark Mercer with a felony arrest warrant Thursday morning in the 1700 block of Towne Crossing Boulevard, but backed off when they noticed he had a gun.

The deputies called for backup, and the standoff began.

Two loud bangs were heard at the apartment complex Thursday night, and an ambulance was seen pulling into the parking lot. However, a short time later, police said the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Bounty hunters also showed up looking for Mercer, saying that he did not appear in court on a case of injury to a child and domestic violence.

The standoff kept several residents at the apartment complex from being able to go inside.
