Police said they linked a man driving a stolen vehicle to multiple burglaries in Plano.
18-year-old Cedric Dewayne Smith Jr. was arrested on Saturday morning at 12:30am during a traffic stop. Police said officers saw him driving through a neighborhood in a vehicle that was reported stolen in Plano earlier in the week.
Police said they linked Smith to multiple Plano burglaries that were committed during overnight hours when residents were home. The Dallas man is charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle while the burglary charges are pending.
It is unclear if police have any evidence that links Smith to dozens of other Plano burglaries that occurred during evening hours while residents were away. In many of those cases, the burglars were in and out of the victims' homes in a matter of minutes, before police arrived.
Police have stepped up patrols and response time in an effort to break those cases. Another burglary suspect,Farhood Sani Allahdadi, was arrested earlier in the week. Police said he was caught climbing out of the window of a home carrying a bag of stolen property. Police said they do not believe Allahdadi is linked to the rash of other burglaries, which were clustered approximately seven miles from where Allahdadi was arrested.
