Texas woman's dog, missing since May, turns up in Indiana

A Texas woman whose dog vanished last year says she's ecstatic after her beloved pooch turned up in a central Indiana city some 1,100 miles away.

Sixty-nine-year-old JoeAnn Navarro of Galveston, Texas, says her two pit bulls vanished in May from her backyard and were apparently stolen.

Navarro thought she'd never see either dog again when the Kokomo Humane Society called her Wednesday to say that a stranger had dropped off her year-old pit bull, Blue, in the city about 40 miles north of Indianapolis.

Shelter executive director Karen Wolfe says the maker of a microchip implanted in Blue tracked Navarro down. A Galveston Island Humane Society volunteer will leave Friday for Indiana to pick up the dog.

Navarro tells The Kokomo Tribune Blue's return will be "a miracle."
