Mom gives birth in N. TX hospital parking lot

A North Texas family welcomed their newest member in a unique way on Friday afternoon –- inside a car in a parking lot.

After feeling contractions, Maria Sandoval jumped into her car with her husband, Juan Delgado, and their two other children.

From close to Mesquite, they raced to Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

"We got to the ER and I felt like [the baby] was coming and she didn't wait anymore," said Sandoval.

"I started screaming and screaming, ‘Help me, help me! My wife's in labor! The baby's coming!'" said Delgado.

Medical staff, including ER nurse Brenda Dowling, ran outside to the family's car that was parked on the curb and found Sandoval already in labor.

"She came out, started crying immediately, no complications," said Dowling. "It was a nice, normal birth. It just happens the baby was born in a car."

Delgado wrapped up the baby, named Khloe, in his Dallas Cowboys sweatshirt.

"I'm going to wash it, frame it and put her name on it," he said.

Delgado says there's now no way he can trade in or sell the Honda Civic that Khloe was born in, so he plans to give it to his 15-year-old daughter -- after a deep cleaning.
