Hometown Hero: Ethan Rine

Ethan Rine, a Denton County boy, loves dogs and says they're the best animals on earth.

Rine has volunteered at Apollo Support and Rescue in Justin, TX for seven months. He volunteers there once a week, but begs his mom to take him there every day.

He turned 9 in November, and instead of presents, he asked his friends to bring items for the dogs at the no-kill shelter.

They brought dog food, toys, blankets and cleaning supplies to help the non-profit care for the canines.

Last year, Apollo helped find new homes for 450 abused or abandoned animals.

Rine asks that people find a shelter if they can no longer care for their pets. He doesn't want to see anymore dogs get dumped.

When Rine grows up, he wants to become a veterinarian or a dog trainer.

He has overcome spina bifida, and for the last two years, has walked without using a walker. He's athletic and enjoys riding horses and swimming.
