Susan Hawk sworn in as Dallas County D.A.

Dallas County's new district attorney is now officially on the job.

It was a packed house as Susan Hawk was sworn in this Thursday morning at the Crowley Courts building.

The 44-year-old former prosecutor and judge defeated Craig Watkins in November.

Hawk is the first female district attorney in Dallas County history and is the first Republican to hold a countywide office in 10 years.

She says her office must do what's right, even if that means taking on harder and more uncomfortable jobs.

Hawk wants to start a mentor program and create a mental health division.

She also took time Thursday to commend Craig Watkins for his work on exonerations.
