Family dispute delays N. TX veteran's burial

An Arlington family wants to bury their beloved aunt, who spent her life fighting for America.

Instead of a dignified burial, they are fighting another family member in court.

Lt. Col. Lucille Glenn was a 23-year Army Nurse Corps veteran and recipient of a Bronze Star.

She belongs at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, but after the 76-year-old lost her fight against Alzheimer's Dec. 22, there's now a court fight.

"This family has come together on this with the exception of [Glenn's] sister, who gave her permission at first, and then withdrew it the next day," said Donlita Cloud, Glenn's niece.

The plan was to use $16,000 of the estate for the funeral and burial, but Cloud says the morning of the viewing, Glenn's sister told the family she wanted the body cremated instead -- a cheaper option that would have meant more money in a trust the sister would oversee, because Glenn never married or had children.

"Since she was a little girl, she wanted…she said she wasn't going to get married -- she was going to see the world," said Cloud.

Cloud is her power of attorney and executor of the will.

"She needs to be buried," said Cloud. "It's just wrong to hold it off."

On Wednesday morning in Tarrant County probate court, a judge will decide where the $16,000 goes –- to the trust or toward Glenn's burial.

"The money is her money -- she earned it," said Cloud.

Cloud says it could be four weeks until the body is finally buried.

While the military covers everything at the cemetery, funeral costs are climbing, along with legal fees.

"It's just cruel and it's a tragedy," said Cloud. "I just can't believe it."

So for now, Cloud says the family waits.

"She definitely didn't want fighting and she didn't want this," said Cloud.

Despite a number of attempts to get in touch with Glenn's sister to comment on this story, we were unsuccessful.

However, FOX 4 will at the hearing Wednesday morning and will provide any updates.
