6-year-old girl mistakenly shot in Dallas drive-by shooting

A 6-year-old girl was shot in the chest overnight in south Dallas.

The girl was inside her father’s car Thursday night when someone in an SUV opened fire. A witness believes the shooter was targeting a group of people outside a convenience store on 2nd and Metropolitan avenues.

The witness also had a bullet hit his Jeep, but he was not hurt.

“It just happened. A bullet went inside my car so I pulled over and stopped. I looked back and there was another vehicle that’s been hit too. It had a little girl in it,” said Jamal Najm.

Najm said it was a very emotional scene with both the little girl and her father screaming and crying for help.

“I pray for her that she is well. I feel for her father,” he said.

The girl was taken to Children’s Medical Center in serious condition. Police are still looking for the shooter.
