Arlington man killed in crash in Johnson County

A driver from Arlington who was not wearing his seat belt was killed Saturday morning in a crash south of Cleburne, in Johnson County.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. when the driver of a GMC Yukon hit a bridge guardrail on State Highway 174 near Old Foamy Road, said DPS Trooper, Doug Gilliam.

The impact caused the Yukon to move into the opposite lanes of traffic, where it was then hit by a semi-truck.

The driver of the Yukon was thrown out and he died at the scene.

The semi driver was treated and released from a local hospital, Gilliam said.

It is believed that alcohol was involved in the crash on the part of the Yukon driver, Gilliam said.

The crash caused fluid to leak from the semi, into a creek. Hazmat crews showed up to clean up the scene and Highway 174 was closed for several hours. The highway is now back open, Gilliam said.
