TX man's fiancée was in building next to where CA shooting happened

Wednesday’s attack in San Bernardino left a Fort Worth family wondering if their loved one was one of the people injured or killed.

The facility where the shooting took place is made up of three buildings.

Emilio Oropeza’s fiancée, Yadira Cabral, works in one of those buildings, and she was working at the time of the shooting.

Cabral was texting Oropeza during the incident.

“The first one says, ‘Babe, there’s something going on. There’s a shooter outside. I can see the SWAT team and we hear helicopters,’” said Oropeza.

Cabral could see people in the office building running for cover.

"She said that the fire alarm went off, which meant that there was a drill, and they started coming out of the building, but another person that works there screamed and said, ‘It’s not a drill! There’s a shooter! There’s a shooter! Run back inside!’” said Oropeza. “That’s when they went back inside and took shelter.”

He was desperately trying to get information from Cabral.

"Obviously, I thought the worst,” said Oropeza. “When I saw about there being a shooter and there stuff, I didn’t know if he was in the building or not, so I didn’t want to call her and maybe give up her location.”

At one point, he got another text from her that didn't ease his mind.

"And she did also tell me over text that there was possible bomb threats,” said Oropeza. “That’s where I became worried, because they were still in the building, they were still near the building…”

Finally, he got a call late Wednesday night saying that Cabral was home safe.
