DALLAS - The family of a man who died in the lobby of the Dallas County jail wants to know if sheriff’s deputies were responsible for his death.
Investigators say Joseph Hutcheson ran into the Lew Sterrett Jail Saturday morning claiming his wife was trying to kill him.
Deputies handcuffed him and a short time later Hutcheson said he couldn’t breathe.
Witnesses claim excessive force was used.
Hutcheson’s family is demanding there sheriff’s office release the jail’s surveillance video.
“I want answers. I want the truth. What’s it going to take? Are we ever going to see the video of the lobby? How long did he lay there? Did they really just set him down or did they throw him down was there a knee in the back, in his neck. Let’s see it show it to us and if they're wrong we need an answer for it,” said James Hutcheson, his brother.
The medical examiner’s office says it could take three months to determine a cause of death.
Hutcheson’s family believes his behavior was caused by a heart problem.
He was arrested last year on a drug charge after deputies found narcotics in his car.
