Some schools in Navarro County closed because of flooding

- A weekend of heavy rain prompted the closure of some schools and delays in Navarro County, southeast of Dallas.

Public schools in Frost, Blooming Grove, Rice, Kerens, Mildred and Dawson are closed Monday. Many afterschool activities and athletic events were canceled or rescheduled, too.

In Corsicana, where more than 20 inches of rain fell between Thursday and Sunday, schools will open at 10 a.m.

Work continues to upright a train that was washed off the tracks in the county. The fast-moving water near Corsicana washed away a rail bed Saturday morning and the freight train fell into the water. The crew escaped unhurt.

The main highway through the county is back open again, though. Parts of Interstate 45 between DFW and Houston were shut down over the weekend because of high water.

Some entry and exit ramps and many local roads will remain closed until floodwaters recede.

State troopers warned drivers to be very careful and not drive around barricades or warning signs.
