Since Friday, three children have drowned in North Texas.

The most recent incident happened early Sunday morning in Bridgeport in Wise County. The sheriff’s office didn’t release many details but said a 2-year-old boy drowned in a backyard pool.

On Saturday, a 4-year-old girl drowned in Weatherford, west of Fort Worth. Sheriff Larry Fowler said the little girl wandered outside and got into the pool. She was rushed to the hospital in Azle but did not survive.

And a 2-year-old girl was found in an apartment pool in Bedford late Friday. Police said she had been missing for more than two hours before searchers found her in the water.

Officers and paramedics tried to save the little girl but couldn’t. She was pronounced dead at Cook Children’s Hospital about an hour later.

Neighbors at the Amherst apartment complex said it should be impossible for a child to get through the pool gate on their own because it has a high latch. Police said there was no lifeguard on duty and no one else was there.
