MedStar goes pink for breast cancer awareness

- All of MedStar’s EMTs and paramedics will wear pink gloves this month while treating patients.

According to a press release, the company said the gloves are a way to support breast cancer awareness. It will also make a financial contribution to the cause.

"The color really stands out," said Shannon Rucker, a MedStar paramedic.  "Hopefully this will encourage people to think about breast cancer and talk to their doctors; and it's nice to be able to recognize those who have fought the disease, especially those we have lost.”

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancers affecting women in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates there will be more than 230,000 new cases diagnosed this year alone.
