North Texas parents prepare for back to school season

In just a few weeks the summer break will be over for thousands of students all across North Texas.

And over the next few days in Dallas County, back to school programs will begin to launch.

It's already time to start getting the kids ready for the start of school. Parents turned out Friday afternoon to pre-register their children for the mayor's back to school fair. If you missed that, you have another chance on Saturday.

Robyn Roscoe is pre-reregistering her kids for the mayor's back to school fair. She has first and second graders who need to be ready for school.

"It's just a big help,” she said. “You don't have to come up with all these hundreds of dollars of school supplies."

School uniforms are another big expense, and Dallas ISD entered into a partnership with JC Penny. On Saturday only from 9 a.m. to noon, some North Texas JC Penny stores are giving Dallas ISD parents a discount on uniforms. They will get $10 off when that family spends at least $50.

The back to school fair is August 4t at the Centennial and Automobile buildings at Fair Park. Parents can pre-register their kids again this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cobb Field House next to Fair Park. People can also register at the event next Friday.

Like in past years, kids will get school supplies, haircuts, vision checks and other health services for the kids and adults.

The Dallas County Health Department will also be at the fair to give kids the immunizations they need to start school. Parents who put it off face standing in long lines the longer they wait. It will kick off its back to school immunizations with a free clinic Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at New Light Church in Dallas.
