Fort Worth animal shelter full to capacity, reduces adoption fees

- The Fort Worth animal shelter has reduced its adoption fee to hopefully relieve overcrowding.

For the second time in six weeks the number of dogs and cats in the shelter topped 700.

“Walking around the shelter campus yesterday just broke our heart to see so many pets who need great homes,” Fort Worth Animal Care & Control said on its Facebook page.

Through the end of July, the shelter is offering prospective pet owners adoptions for the patriotic fee of just $17.76. The fee covers the cost of spay/neuter services, vaccines, a medical exam and microchipping.

If the shelter can’t find homes for some of the animals it may be forced to consider euthanizing healthy and adoptable animals.

But the good news is that since the promotion started last Friday there have already been 137 adoptions.
