Man, elderly mother arrested during Denton anti-fracking protest

A man and his 92-year-old mother were arrested Tuesday morning as they held a personal protest against fracking.

Denton police were called to a disturbance at the entrance of the Vantage gas well.

Police say 64-year-old Theron Palmer chained himself to the gate and refused to move.

His mother, Violet Palmer, was also there.

She was sitting in a chair blocking the entrance.

Police eventually cut the chain and arrested them both.

Violet Palmer was not placed in handcuffs, but her son was.

Both were booked on charges of criminal trespass and obstructing access to the worksite.

Fracking has been a hot-button issue in Denton.

Similar protests also resulted in arrests earlier this month.

Denton residents had voted in favor of banning fracking within its limits.

In response, Texas legislators passed a law banning those kinds of bans.
