Volunteers fill holiday meal bags for Tarrant County families

- Dozens of volunteers gathered Monday to fill bags with canned goods and other non-perishable food items for families in need.

Volunteers gathered at Communities in Schools of Greater Tarrant County to pack 450 grocery bags for holiday meals. The bags included mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green beans, cereal, peanut butter and more. Each bag is designed to feed a family of four.

Almost 100 percent of the students served by the non-profit organization’s program qualify for the free lunch program.

“For the majority of the kids we serve the majority of the meals a week they get at school. When school is not in session, we wanna make sure those kids get what they need,” said Lindsey Garner, a volunteer with Communities in Schools of Greater Tarrant County.

The bags will be delivered to families in the program before the Christmas holiday.
