9 Arlington officers fired for making fake traffic reports

- Nine Arlington police officers were fired for writing tickets for traffic stops that never happened, the department announced.

The internal investigation began earlier this year in May when the department uncovered suspicious reporting of traffic stops during routine supervisory audits of their officers. The audits found that several officers reported traffic stops that never actually occurred. Sources told FOX 4 in May that one red flag was the same license plate appearing in multiple citations.

The department's earlier findings suggested that the officers did not contact any citizens or issue any tickets during their alleged traffic stops. At that time, the department placed 15 officers on administrative leave while investigating if other officers were involved.

Lt. Christopher Cook announced on Friday that the investigation led to 9 officers being fired and 3 officers quitting. Four officers remain under administrative investigation.

Sources told FOX 4 the motivation behind the fake stops was performance evaluations.

The findings of the investigation were forwarded to the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office, which could decide to criminally charge the officers.
