Polio-like illness hospitalizes several children in Fort Worth

- Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth says it’s had six patients with an illness that is like polio. Nationwide there are only 50 such cases.

Most patients with acute flaccid myelitis are children. They have weakness in the arms and legs. The disease can also lead to respiratory failure.

The cause is still a mystery.

The Centers for Disease Control said vaccines are the best way to prevent it, as far as doctors know.
