Chase ends with crash into Garland apartment

- A Garland family of five is without a home after a wild chase and crash ended with the driver crashing into their apartment

A woman police said was in a stolen pickup out of Royse City led them on a pursuit through Rockwall County west on Interstate 30. The woman behind the wheel of the pickup suddenly veered off the interstate and into the apartment of Alicia Moody.

“When the truck hit the wall, it pretty much went right into the middle of my kids room,” Moody said.

Moody was in the living room when she felt the building shake at around 10:15 a.m. last Tuesday.

“I work nights so I was asleep on the couch. It jolts me, it shook me when it did,” Moody said.

She made her way outside to see the front end of a pickup poking through the wall of her kids’ bedroom.

“I didn't even get a chance to see who she was or what. I was in complete shock, I just stood there and cried,” Moody said.

Police said the driver of the pickup was 28-year-old Rachel Lenae Swanso. After the wreck, Rockwall County sheriff's deputies took Swanson to Baylor to be admitted, but she left. Now the department is filing at-large warrants to bring her in.

Since the wreck, Moody said she and her kids have been staying in a motel. The complex has boarded up the damaged bedroom, so Moody hopes her family can move back in while repairs are done.

“I work 55 hours a week, I do all this by myself,” she said.

She said she can't afford to move, so she is doing what she can to clean up a mess she didn't make.

“I really would love to be there in court when she's there. She needs to pay restitution or something, she had no regard for mine or my kids life and I have no regard for hers,” Moody said.
