Two bodies recovered from Cedar Creek Lake

Two bodies were recovered from Cedar Creek Lake Sunday morning.

Texas Game Wardens have identified the two as 19-year-old Anthony Aleman and 25-year-old Onesimo Cabriales, both from Dallas.

Three men took a 16-foot canoe out on the water, but ran into trouble when the boat started leaking. Texas Game Wardens said the men panicked and the boat capsized.

Authorities said the group tried to stay with the boat, but it flipped again, causing them to lose their grip.

“One tried to swim back, the other two, he thought they were swimming back but they didn't make it back. Last time he saw them they were together,” said Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Warden Tony Norton.

Game Wardens said no one was wearing a life vest. As recovery crews scanned the lake with sonar, the family of the two men missing sat waiting on the edge of the lake, hoping for any news.

“My cousin's husband knew how to swim but the other one didn't. We're thinking that knowing him, how he tried to help everyone, we're thinking he probably tried helping him since he couldn't swim,” said a family member.

Family members said Cabriales was always a positive force in their family, “He was the one who tried to be better, people think down, he was always trying to be positive, and help everybody around.”

Texas Game Wardens suspect choppy conditions may have played a role in the accident that took their lives.

“For a canoe in that kind of wind, you're fighting against Mother Nature at that point,” said Norton.
