New police documents revealed the wife of a University Park fire captain and her boyfriend planned the man's murder.
Captain Robert Poynter was shot in his truck Friday night after his wife, Chacey Poynter, called the police. Now, she and her boyfriend, Michael Garza, are charged with murdering Robert.
Court documents revealed the disturbing details in the alleged plot carried out by 29-year-old Chacey and the man police describe as her lover, 39-year old Michael.
As the details emerged Tuesday, search teams looked for more evidence at the crime scene at the remote Hunt County area where police say Chacey and Michael lured Robert him to. Police believe Garza was the one who shot and killed him.
The arrest warrant affidavit states “Chacey Poynter advised that she and Garza had spoken about hurting Robert Poynter so they could be together."
The warrant also pointed out “Chacey advised she was told by Garza to have Robert meet her in ‘deep’ Dallas so they could make ‘it "look like a robbery.’”
Investigators say Chacey had told Michael that her husband abused her physically and emotionally. She told him she Robert had filed for divorce and told her she would not get their daughter.
The affidavit said Chacey "moved her jeep to an area to make it look like she got stuck on the dirt road so she could call Robert Poynter to meet her out there."
The affidavit said when Chacey’s husband arrived, "she met Robert at the end of the road and walked back with him to her jeep where Michael Garza was waiting in the area."
The affidavit indicated when Robert was moving her vehicle, Michael shot him in the head with what police believe was a shotgun.
The document also revealed what detective may have been searching for at the crime scene again on Tuesday afternoon.
"After Garza shot and killed Robert Poynter, she began screaming for help and called 911,” the affidavit stated. “Garza took the phone from her and hung up on 911 and threw her phone into the mud where she could not locate it."
Chacey told police she didn't want her husband dead. She said she just wanted him to "hurt the way he made her hurt."
