New Big Tex outfit pays tribute to fallen officers

- The State Fair of Texas is still three weeks away, but Big Tex already has new duds.

Fort Worth-based Dickies created the new clothes he’ll be wearing at the fair this year. They were unveiled Friday morning at the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park.

Big Tex’s shirt this year has a special tribute to the Dallas police officers who were killed in the ambush in July.

It takes two weeks to make the 55-foot-tall Cowboy’s shirt, which has sleeves that are 27 feet long. His jeans take 100 yards of fabric and a solid week to sew at the Dickies original plant that opened in 1922.

The jeans alone weigh about 100 pounds.

Big Tex will be wearing the outfit when the fair opens on Friday, Sept. 30.
