2-year construction project begins on Hwy. 75 at PGBT

A major highway interchange is getting a makeover. It’s going to take a while and may cause some inconveniences for drivers.

The goal is to eliminate congestion in the area near the Central Expressway and President George Bush Turnpike in Plano.

Work will begin Monday along the southbound frontage road between the 15th Street exit and Plano Parkway.

Over the next two and a half years traffic patterns will be reconfigured along the 1.3-mile stretch of road. The 15th Street exit will be eliminated, braided ramps will be added and lanes will be added as well.

The same San Antonio-based company that did the work for the Dallas High Five will work on this project. It’s a collaboration between Plano, Richardson, DART, NTTA and TxDOT.

The $37 million improvements should make traffic flow smoother through the area, but it will likely get worse before it gets better.
