2 die in wrong-way crash on Central Expressway

Two drivers were killed and one person was injured in a head-on crash near downtown Dallas early Tuesday morning.

Police said 27-year-old Lauren Cordova was going the wrong way in a Cadillac. She ran head-on into a car on southbound Central Expressway between Hall Street and the Woodall Rodgers Freeway.

The crash killed Cordova and the other driver, 23-year-old Hussein Zaybeck. Zaybeck’s younger brother, Mohamed, 21, was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Hussein and Mohamed both Snapchatted photos of themselves with Dallas Cowboys player Lucky Whitehead on Monday while having dinner in Uptown just a few hours before the wreck.

Andrew Gonzalez woke up to a phone call from his friend Jason, telling him that the brothers had been involved in a terrible wreck.

“He said Hussein was in a car accident and he didn't make it. I was like that's ridiculous I was just on the phone with him last night,” Gonzalez said.

Investigators are still trying to determine how long Cordova had been driving in the wrong direction. They don't yet know where she got on the highway or if alcohol was a factor.

Her family said she had just moved to Dallas from Oklahoma and had gone out to dinner with a friend after getting off work.

Family of Hussein said his body is being sent back to Iraq, which is where he was born, to be buried.
