N. TX animal shelter temporarily taking in Horseshoe Bend pets

The Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter is offering to temporarily house pets of evacuated Horseshoe Bend residents, Weatherford city officials have announced.

The shelter has dedicated one of its five kennels to displaced animals, allowing owners to visit with and feed their pets until they're able to take them back home.

The shelter is also offering to spay or neuter, microchip and give rabies shots and other core vaccinations to pets of evacuated Horseshoe Bend residents.

All animals that are rescued from the Horseshoe Bend area are being vaccinated, processed in a computer system, photographed, given an ID number and put into a temporary kennel.

About 40 to 50 animals have been brought to the shelter so far, and the shelter expects more to come as long as flooding remains a threat in the area.

The shelter is offering a special $25 adoption fee through Tuesday to help with the influx of rescued animals.

To learn how to make a donation to the shelter, visit www.weatherfordtx.gov/shelterdonate  or call 817-598-4111.

When pet owners go to get their animals back, the shelter will give them one bag of pet food.
