Rescuer rescued from flooding in Sachse

An officer helping with water rescues in Sachse had to be rescued by a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.

It happened around 8 a.m. Friday on Miles Road near Pleasant Valley Road, which is near Rowlett Creek.

The officer and first responders were in the area because of a report of several vehicles trapped in high water.

Rescuers used a hovercraft to reach one young woman who was out on the top of her car. Wylie firefighters escorted her back to dry ground and a very grateful mom and dad.

The officer's SUV got stuck nearby. The hovercraft couldn't reach him because of brush and trees, so the helicopter was called in.

He was there to keep other drivers from going into high water until it surrounded him, too.

He did not appear to be hurt.

Back on higher ground, he got a handshake and a hug from his colleagues who knew it could have been much worse.
