DPD hosts 'Let's Talk' police and youth forum

- The Dallas Police Department is trying to reach out to the city’s young people to build better communication and trust.

Hundreds of kids between 10 and 15 years old filled the Winspear Opera House for the department’s second “Let’s Talk” police and youth forum.

The three-hour program allows young people to engage directly with police, to ask questions, air concerns and learn about law enforcement.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown was on hand to share his own story of growing up in Oak Cliff and patrolling those very same neighborhoods as a young officer.

He was joined by Cowboys’ great Emmitt Smith and Daryl Moose Johnston in sending a message to the kids in attendance.

Another purpose of Thursday’s gathering was to encourage young people to consider careers in law enforcement.
