Sketch released of fake Lyft driver in Carrollton fatal stabbing

- Carrollton police have released a sketch of the man they are looking for following a stabbing death that claimed he was a Lyft driver.

Police said 34-year-old Arnold Pinilla of Garland was murdered on July 1 as he was leaving Casa Vieja near Belt Line Road and Josey Lane.

His girlfriend said they were waiting for a Lyft driver when a man said he was the driver that was picking them up. But after a short distance, Pinilla and the driver got into an argument. She said they knew something was not right when the man asked them for money. It’s something the ride sharing industry does not do.

The driver stopped the car on Myers Street and fatally stabbed Pinilla in front of his girlfriend, police said.

His girlfriend called for help after the suspect took off, but Pinilla did not survive. She was not hurt.

Police said the couple didn’t know the suspect, but investigators don’t believe robbery was a motive.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-30s with light complexion and has a coastal Spanish accent. He is 5'3"- 5'6" tall with a skinny build. He was driving an early-mid 2000s white, 4-door sedan with a sunroof and a tan or beige interior.

Pinilla's family wants justice, which they say starts with locating the suspect and getting a killer off the street.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call North Texas Crime Stoppers at (1-877-373-8477).
