Man charged in Irving shooting death of girlfriend

A man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend, according to Irving police.

Shane Anthony Nelson was charged late Sunday night after police found the body of 25-year-old Brenca Onay McBride. She'd sustained a single gunshot wound.

McBride's body was found around 6:45 p.m. on Sunday at an apartment in the 1000 block of Lake Carolyn Parkway, where officers had been called to do a welfare check.

Police soon learned that Nelson and McBride were dating and that Nelson had left the apartment after the two had gotten into an argument.

As police worked to track down Nelson, he called them and turned himself in.

Nelson remains in jail on a $1 million bond.
