Texas police chief killed in crash, remembered in Dallas

Law enforcement officials from across the country, friends and family said goodbye Tuesday to a former Dallas assistant police chief.

Chief Floyd Simpson spent 25 years on the force at the Dallas Police Department. In March 2012, he became the first black police chief in Corpus Christi.

He died earlier this month in a motorcycle crash when a pickup truck crossed over into his lane on a Corpus highway.

Chief Simpson was described as a dedicated leader and a loving father Tuesday morning during a memorial service at the Friendship West Baptist Church in Oak Cliff.

He was remembered as a marathon runner and a man who enjoyed riding his motorcycle when he was not busy with work.

He leaves behind a wife of 27 years and four children.
