Plano church vandalized with anti-religious symbols

Police are searching for the vandals who spray painted a Plano church with anti-religious symbols and vandalized other locations.

Senior Pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Isaiah Joshua Jr., drove to his century-old church in disbelief Wednesday morning. The church was filled with spray painted pentagrams, 666 and upside down crosses.

"We, the church, are doing great work for God,” said Joshua. “Because it's only when you were doing great work for God, Satan attacks you."

Plano Police Officer David Tilley said whoever vandalized the church started there and worked their way east along 14th Street.

"It appears like whoever was doing this was going along the DART rail line and kind of finding whatever it be, a business or walls, and just spray painting,” explained Tilley.

Joshua said he's forgiven whoever is responsible for the vandalism. But as a lifelong educator, he has some advice.

“If I were you, I would not choose to make the same mistake,” he said. “And I certainly would not choose to do it at God's house."

Investigators are working to see if the vandalism suspects were caught on surveillance videos from nearby businesses.

Plano police say the people responsible for the vandalism will face a criminal mischief charge and will determine if the anti-religious symbols will be considered as a hate crime.
