Hometown Hero: IMPACT Club at Berkner High School

The North Texas Food Bank feeds almost 440,000 people a year, and the non-profit is getting help from Berkner High School in Richardson.

For the second year, students in the IMPACT Club collected non-perishable food. This year's donation surpassed what they donated last year.

IMPACT stands for "Inspiring Minds People and Community Service." Club members made their impact with donations of non-perishable food from their schoolmates, Springridge Elementary School, and Target.

The after-school program is all about service, leadership and learning. Students are challenged to look at the world around them and make a difference.

One student went door-to-door in her community to get donations.

The North Texas Food Bank is grateful to these caring teenagers for their donation of 25 boxes of food, which totaled almost 1,700 pounds of food -- much of which has already been delivered to North Texans in need.
