Texas DPS clarifies punishment for trooper pictured with Snoop Dogg

The Texas Department of Public Safety has issued a statement in attempt to clarify the punishment given to a trooper in a picture with the rapper Snoop Dogg.

Trooper Billy Spears was cited and required to go through counseling after the artist, who is also a convicted drug offender, posted the picture on Instagram.

The department says it is not allowed to talk about personnel issues, but that the situation has been mischaracterized and misreported.

At issue is the "counseling" the trooper received.

The DPS claims it's more of a one-time talk with a superior than a formal session with a counselor.
