Strangers gather for 102-year-old woman's funeral

Strangers attended the funeral Monday of a woman they didn't even know, and though the 102-year-old didn't have any known relatives, many would argue that she had plenty of family.

Mattie Robbins passed away on her birthday, March 1. She had been living in a Fort Worth nursing home for about 10 years.

Major Williams runs a funeral home that often gets called to help when relatives can't be located. He didn't know Robbins, but when he got a call about her, he felt a connection with her because he was raised by his grandmother.

Robbins died will little money. Williams believed she deserved a proper burial, so he and Cedar Hill Memorial Park and Arlington put in the rest of the money necessary to give her a fine funeral.

Williams called on members of a couple of churches to be part of the service.
