Dallas bridge could be named for former mayor Ron Kirk

- A bridge across the Trinity River in Dallas may be named after the city’s first black mayor – Ron Kirk.

The idea involves the pedestrian bridge that connects Downtown and West Dallas. It’s under consideration now at City Hall.

Kirk was the mayor of Dallas from 1995 to 2002. He also served as the United States Trade Representative under President Barack Obama.

Several members of the city council’s transportation committee are pushing for the change. It would have to be approved by the full council.
