The SPCA of Texas rescued 117 animals from a suspected puppy mill in Hunt County.

There were 93 adult dogs, 22 puppies and two cats that were rescued from a property near Greenville on Monday.

The majority of the animals were found in filthy metal cages with up to three dogs in each. Investigators say the smell of urine and feces was noticeable from the road.

The animal owner told investigators they were selling the dogs.

All large-scale animal breeders in Texas are required by law to be licensed and inspected on a regular basis.  It is unclear at this point if the animal owner is properly licensed.

There will be a custody hearing in October.
