N. TX group visits Selma for Bloody Sunday 50th anniversary march

A group from Garland was among the 70,000 people to march recently in Selma, Alabama for the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday.

The group returned early Wednesday morning from their trip. It was organized by the Bowtie Boys, which has a goal of developing young men who are spiritually mature, emotionally healthy and socially responsible.

The children and adults who went were impressed by the courage the people had in Selma 50 years ago.

"This trip will probably still affect me for years to come," said Wylie East High School student Brandon Levy. "You have to soak it in piece by piece."

Parents said the nine-hour road trip and year of planning and fundraising was worth the life-changing history lesson.
