Plano teen fatally stabbed by passing stranger

A 16-year-old was stabbed to death in an argument with a young man in east Plano.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2900 block of 15th Street.

Police said Jerry Soto and his friend were in the front yard of his home. They exchanged words with a person who was passing by.

Soto followed that person and was later found a block away with fatal wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police are still interviewing the teen's friend to learn more about the nature of the argument. They do not believe the teens knew the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic man in his late teens. He is about 5-foot-8 and has a thin build.

So far, no arrests have been made.

"He was just a really cool person," said Christopher Couch, who went to middle school with Soto. "I liked hanging with him a lot."

Couch walked a couple of miles in the rain Monday morning just to hug Soto's loved ones.

"He was a real friend to me and I wanted to show that," said Couch. "…I just wish he didn't have to leave like this."

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-877-373-TIPS.

Anonymous tips are welcome. There is also a reward of up to $5,000 available for information that leads to an arrest.
