Suspected drunk driver rams into Arlington officer's car

Alex Boyer reports

- Arlington police say a drunk driver admitted to ramming into an officer’s squad car Sunday morning, trying to stall out the vehicle.

Dash camera video shows the driver of a truck police are chasing turn around and drive straight into the squad car. The officer inside was trapped for a time and the suspect briefly escaped.

It started as a routine traffic stop in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven just before five A.M. That’s where police say the driver of the truck nearly hit the officer’s car while exiting the convenience store without any lights on.

The officer went after the driver, who she believed may have been intoxicated. The two ended up on Highway 360 heading northbound at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.

The chase eventually turned westbound on Six Flags Drive, where the driver lost control while exiting the highway. Seconds later the driver hits the gas, slamming into the driver’s side door of the cop car.

The air bags deployed, blocking the officer’s view of the suspect. Then the driver of the truck took off again. He ended up in Fort Worth where police lost him during a foot chase.

A break in the case came about four hours later when they got a call from a relative saying the driver had passed out at their house.

Fort Worth police surrounded the house, arresting the driver. He was later identified as Josue Pablo Mendez-Gurrero.
