Dallas man killed while taking pictures of the snow

A man who stepped outside early Thursday morning to take pictures of the snow was shot and killed.

Dallas police said it happened around 12:30 a.m. in the 9900 block of Walnut Street.

Ahmed Al-Jumaili, 36, was taking pictures in a parking lot and was hit by random gunfire.

He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

The suspects are believed to be a group of teenage boys who took off running. Witnesses told police there was a group of them nearby, and one of them started firing shots without warning.

Several vehicles in the parking lot were also hit.

Some think the shooting is a hate crime, but not Al-Jumaili's family.

"No, I don't think so," said Mohammed Altaae, Al-Jumaili's father-in-law. "They're only kids. Maybe they were playing with themselves with guns or shooting at each other."

However, Dallas police are looking at all possible motives. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police.

Al-Jumaili had recently moved to North Texas from Iraq, where he grew up.

He married his wife, Zahara, 16 months ago. She came to the U.S. to join her family while he stayed in Baghdad, where he worked until he could join her.

That reunion came three weeks ago.
