Investigators in Denton say a man serving prison time for a kidnapping in Harris County may be connected to a 20-year-old cold case.
Denton Police call William Reece a person of interest in the disappearance of Kelli Cox.
She vanished in 1997 at the age of 20.
Her case is well known in Denton and on the University of North Texas campus.
Now there is fresh hope.
Cox’s mother, Jan Bynum, has wanted answers for the past 19 years regarding the disappearance of her daughter.
“You get up every day and wonder, is today the day she is going to call? Is she going to come through the door or am I going to get answers from the Police,” said Bynum.
Investigators in Houston are on the scene of what they call a dig, in a Harris County field... potentially looking for human remains.
That investigation involves 56 year old William Reece, who is serving a 60 year sentence in a separate aggravated kidnapping case.
A Denton cold case detective began questioning Reece two weeks ago and police confirm there are several cold cases that may be tied to the field.
One of those cases is the disappearance of Kelli Cox.
Denton Police say Reece has always been a person of interest in the Kelli Cox case, but they have never had enough evidence to make him a suspect.
Cox’s daughter, Alexis Bynum, is 20 years old now.
Like her mother, she is a student at UNT.
