1 hurt, 1 being questioned for Mesquite shooting

Police are investigating a shooting in Mesquite that left one person seriously injured early Thursday morning.

It happened around 2 a.m. in the 1200 block of Juanita Street. Police believe two men were arguing outside a home and one man shot the other.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, was shot multiple times in the torso. He was hospitalized in serious condition and rushed into surgery, police said.

The suspect took off after the shooting. Police searched the area with a helicopter and dogs, but did not find him.

Police described him as a white male who is about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a skinny build. He has a bald head with scars on the top of his head. He may be in a silver, four-door sedan possibly with a broken tail light or a silver pickup.

Officers did detained one person, but he is only considered a person of interest in the case and will be interviewed by detectives. Police are also talking to other potential witnesses.

The motive for the shooting is still unclear.
