Witnesses pulled a man from a fiery crash that killed two other people in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas late Monday.

Police said it happened around 9:30 p.m. on E. Northwest Highway near Garland Road. The driver of a Mercedes SUV lost control and crashed into a storage facility. The vehicle then burst into flames.

Several witnesses were able to pull the back passenger from the wreckage before paramedics arrived. Police said he suffered third and fourth-degree burns over 70 percent of his body and was rushed to Parkland hospital in critical condition.

The witnesses were not able to rescue the driver or the person in the front passenger seat because the fire was too heavy. They both died in the blaze, police said.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.

It’s not yet clear what caused the crash.
