FOX Medical Team: Interrupted Sleep & Tackle Football

The FOX Medical Team’s Dr. Joette Giovinco says contact sports are still okay for kids. There’s also a new sleep study out that has everyone opening up their eyes.

The headline from the recent sleep study suggests interrupted sleep is worse than not getting enough sleep. Researchers found a significant difference after the second night of interrupted sleep and a 31 percent reduction in positive mood.

Pediatrics from all over the country met in Washington D.C. last week and one thing they really focused on is concussions and the safety of tackle football for kids. Tackling accounts for half of all football injuries and the players and their families really have to decide if the benefits of playing outweigh the risks.

The AAP is calling for more non-tackling leagues for kids, especially young kids. Officials and coaches are also being asked to enforce the rules and offer more instruction on proper tackling.
