Volunteers help deliver hot meals for Giving Tuesday

Today is the day to think about someone else. This day after Cyber Monday is being dubbed "Giving Tuesday." FOX 4's Shannon Murray visited the Meals on Wheels kitchen to explain.

Every day Meals on Wheels fills hundreds of coolers with hot meals. But today, volunteers with the United Way and Texas Instruments will help deliver them to people in need throughout the community.

“It’s a huge operation. It’s all part of Giving Tuesday, which is today. And we’re under the umbrella of Big D Gives. So we’re working with hundreds of non-profit organizations across the region to just really show how generous Dallas can be,” said Susan Hoff, the chief operating officer at United Way.

Hoff said the goal is to make Dallas the most generous city in America. That doesn’t just include money. It’s about volunteering time, giving meals, giving blood, giving clothes and more.

“There’s so many ways that we can give back to our community,” she said. “This is a day really meant to celebrate giving.”

The hope is that Giving Tuesday will encourage people to volunteer more often throughout the year. Volunteers are always welcome at Meals on Wheels.
