Fried Green Tomatoes

Chef Jermaine Brown with Julia Pearl Southern Cuisine in Plano makes fried green tomatoes with buttermilk dressing and spiced shrimp. He blends classic Southern with modern techniques for bold flavor.

Fried Green Tomatoes

6 green tomatoes, sliced
1 cup flour
1 cup buttermilk
Corn Meal Batter
    Corn Meal - 2 Cups
    Flour - ½ Cup
    Cajun Spice - 2 Tablespoon
    Salt - 1 Tablespoon
    Combine all ingredients in bowl and mix.
Oil for frying

In 3 bowls, add flour in one, buttermilk in another and the corn meal batter in the third. Dip tomato slices first in the flour, then buttermilk and finally the cornmeal batter.

Fry each in hot oil for 3 minutes until golden.   Top with Cajun Buttermilk Dressing

Cajun Buttermilk Dressing

Buttermilk - 2 Cups
Mayo - 1 ½ Cups
Onion Powder - 1 teaspoon
Garlic Powder - ¼ teaspoon
Blackened Spice - 2 Tablespoon
Lemon Juice - 1oz
Hot Sauce - 1 ½oz
Salt - to taste

Combine all ingredients in bowl and whisk together.
